Star City Band Mission and Philosophy Statement
Music Education is a process by which students develop knowledge, physical coordination, physical activity, and other pertinent lifelong skills through the enjoyment of performing music. The objective of teaching music is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of musicianship and training that will result in an individual’s interest, curiosity and desire to continue to be a lifelong participant in music as a consumer, concert-goer, or perhaps a professional performer or music educator. The Star City Band offers our students a high quality music education. You hear time and time again about the importance of Arts in Education, and there are many well-documented benefits of music education as you can see by following this link. The Star City Band offers students benefits even beyond these great educational opportunities. In a school reaching nearly 1,000 students 6-12, it can be easy to get lost and unconnected, however band students have a home base and an instant network of friends. Over ninety percent of the students who join the Band, stay in the Band throughout their high school career primarily because we offer a great blend of hard work and commitment with pure fun and enjoyment. Perhaps most importantly, our students are creating remarkable memories that will last throughout their life. Ask any former band member to list their most fond high school memories and they will undoubtedly tell many stories of their band experiences. We pride ourselves in creating a fun, challenging, and supportive environment, which helps to inspire our students to reach their full potential. |
